Exercise Physiologist - Cardiac Rehab

Responsible for administering aerobic and other exercise programs with patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders to enhance quality of life, manage health risk, and promote lasting health behavior change. The specialist performs maximal and submaximal graded exercise tests, and develops and administer programs designed to enhance aerobic endurance, cardiovascular function, muscular strength and endurance and, balance. Position Responsibilities: Provides patient testing and assessment before and after rehabilitation. Plans and teaches exercise therapy for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen. Monitors patient's response and revises plan accordingly. Recognizes contraindications and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals. Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes. Collaborates with physician regarding the exercise prescription for each patient. Maintains in-depth knowledge of monitoring and arrhythmia identification. Preparation of report on individual patient to appropriate physician. Appropriately charts progress in Medical Records. Maintains appropriate documentation of patient care. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the departmental equipment. Maintains equipment in optimal functioning condition in accordance with manufactures guidelines. Provides staff with educational in-service for proper and safe use of equipment. Other Duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensure / Certification / Registration (Required): Certified BLS and ACLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association(AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date(obtain prior to employment is preferred). Certified BLS and ACLS Provider credentialed from the American Red Cross obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date (obtain prior to employment is preferred). Education: B.S. in Exercise Physiology / Science or related degree is required. M.S. preferred. Work Experience: ACSM Clinical Certification preferred. Must have experience educating patients on lifestyle changes to improve cardiovascular health and prevent future heart problems. Experience using various exercise equipment, analyzing patient data, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
