- High school diploma; or equivalent vocational/trade school education in Manufacturing, Production or related field; or related production work experience.
- Minimum 3 years manufacturing/operations experience.
- Knowledge of and basic skills in lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methods.
- Understands basic OSHA and safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Understands basic automotive quality terms and measuring methods. Experience using check fixtures/gauges.
- Practical experience with computers and Microsoft Office.
- Good math skills and the ability to analyze data.
- Strong listening and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and with a variable workload (flexible hours).
- Ability to understand, anticipate and follow direction while exercising maturity of judgement.
- Must be able to interact effectively with other team members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact.
- Physically capable of performing essential duties of the job.
- Coordinates daily production activities including job assignments and rotations.
- Meets with the Area Leader prior to shift start-up to understand the current line and production state, absentee/tardiness call-ins, and changes to normal employee work areas/equipment.
- Together with Area Leader, holds daily pre-shift meetings to inform Production Associates of any changes, to communicate daily requirements and to promote involvement in issues affecting employees or their work areas.
- Ensures TPM/Daily Care activities, safety checks, tip changes, etc. are completed properly and as scheduled.
- Ensures appropriate first-off and last-off procedures for all processes are followed by auditing the process daily. If first-off/last-off fails, the Team Leader stops the line and ensures all work-in-process (WIP) and finished goods are correctly identified and dispositioned and that related results are communicated to the appropriate functions.
- Performs non-frequent/periodic work; e.g., shift start prep; ensuring the necessary PPE and other materials/supplies are at the production line; switching out bins, etc.
- Properly prepares the production line for the next shift start.
- Ensures effective and efficient use of Utility Operators.
- Steps in when operators report in absent, need bio breaks, etc.
- Trains Production Associates on and ensures adherence to standardized work processes.
- Ensures that operators are trained, qualified, and capable of performing assigned duties, ensuring no team members are working on any machinery/equipment they have not been properly trained on.
- Ensures Layered Process Audits (LPA) are performed as required. Quickly resolves any non-conformances.
- Follows the Quality Alert System. Communicates and ensures quality alerts are adhered to; participates in problem solving to ensure issues have been effectively resolved; and administers the fast response board.
- Follows Company procedure for handling non-confirming product and ensures that non-conforming product is dispositioned, tagged accordingly, and placed in designated non-confirming product areas.
- Acts as the first contact for Andon alerts and for support departments (i.e., Quality, Maintenance, Materials, etc.). Responds quickly to Andon alerts and other issues; gains understanding of the problem(s); requests support from the appropriate group(s), informing them of issues/problems upon their arrival and leads a quick resolution.
- Continually monitors MAFACT and other data boards to ensure safety, quality, timing, cost, and motivation KPI targets are being met. Responds to issues of underperformance with urgency and provides direction, assistance, support and coaching to resolve the issues, following the proper escalation procedures as required.
