The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties Inc. is looking to fill a full time Senior Counselor for the Residential Division.

As the requirements for each program are related to the level of need and assistance that participants require, staff will learn program regulations and provide services accordingly. The goal of the program is to assist individuals in reaching the highest level of independence in the community that is possible for each person. The senior counselor will play a crucial role in case management and uphold the highest standards in implementing service plans for each individual resident. In addition, the senior counselor will act as supervisor for the other residential counselors.

Position Type: Full Time-40 Hours/Non-Exempt 

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Work Location: 713 Union St., Hudson, NY 12534 

Shift Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm with some evenings based on program needs 

Job Duties Include:

• Acts as an effective role model. Fosters open communication, and shows understanding, support and respect to all residents.

• Provides supportive, goal-oriented counseling when needed, with a focus on decision making and problem-solving skills.

• With consumer input, develops and implements all resident service plans in compliance with specific program regulations.

• Develop resident service plans that satisfy OMH and Medicaid requirements as per program.

• Orients residents. Is alert to potential crises, intervenes emergencies, and makes appropriate notifications and files appropriate reports.

• Act as a liaison to other agencies that may be involved during a crisis situation.

• Demonstrates appropriate assessment and crisis intervention skills.

• Teaching coping skills to assist residents in dealing with daily activities.

• Teaches stress management skills and provides options for residents to deal with stress, training, and monitoring in ADL and socialization skills regarding resident objectives as outlined in their Service Plan Goals.

• Provide supervision, assistance, training, and monitoring in ADL and socialization skills regarding resident objectives as outlined in their Service Plan Goals.
• Educates the residents regarding the program, specify the assistance that would be available to the resident, and will act as a “buffer” and facilitator for problem solving between resident conflicts.
• Assists individuals in locating, securing and maintaining housing.
• Assists participant in set up of bedrooms and with budgeting skills needed to maintain any excessive funds for savings.
• Assists all participants in identifying, applying for and obtaining benefits under each of the following mainstream health and social services programs for which they are eligible SSI, TANF, Safety Net, Medicaid, SCHIP, Food Stamps, Workforce Investment Act, Veterans Health Care Programs and any other financial, medical vocational, educational, clinical and rehabilitative program.
• Participates in weekly/monthly staff meetings and team process.
• Adequately completes daily record keeping and documentation needs for all participants.
• Knows and follows agency program procedures and policies.
• Provide a supportive environment and function as a positive role model for residents and staff through appropriate dress and behavior.
• Maintain organizational compliance with OMH and Program Policies
• Maintain timely reporting and record keeping systems for individual caseloads in compliance with Medicaid regulations.

Requirements

• Must have High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Associate’s degree and experience working in the Mental Health field considered a plus.
• Must have proficiency and adaptability with computer software and web-based systems with the aptitude to learn additional systems quickly and efficiently.
• Must be self-motivated.

• Must have excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Regular and steady attendance is a requirement for all positions.
