Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU night shift position in Reston, VA, requiring at least 2 years of direct cardiac surgery recovery experience and ACLS certification.

Details

• Located in a hospital CVICU (Cardiovascular ICU) setting with 4 beds
• Cares for fresh post-cardiac surgery patients, including immediate post-surgical and post-op day (POD) 1–3 patients
• Patient ratios are 1:1 for immediate post-surgical recovery and 1:2 for POD 1–3
• Procedures include care for patients in a newly launched cardiac surgery program
• Advanced equipment used includes balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring systems
• EMR system is Meditech Expanse
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 36-hour workweek with 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
• When floating, travelers maintain the same patient ratio as the unit they float to
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active VA or Compact RN license required
• Current ACLS certification required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)
• Current BLS certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience, including direct primary recovery of fresh cardiac surgery patients
• Experience with balloon pump, Impella, and Hemosphere or Acumen monitoring required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted
• One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• This role supports a newly launched cardiac surgery program
• Primary nursing model is used on this unit; unit secretaries and techs are available for support
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but 2 years of direct CVICU experience is required
