Medical Technologist

Laboratory TechnicianPerform routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease and performs related duties following established standards and practices.Primarily interacts with: physicians, employees, clinical and non-clinical departments, patients, visitors, and volunteers.Essential FunctionsMaintain established hospital policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Perform all required procedures related to counting and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies, specialized hematology procedures, chemical analysis of specimens, serologic and transfusion medicine procedures and microscopic evaluation of specimens, if required.Perform venipunctures on patients observing strict principles of asepsis and anti-sepsis to prevent infection of patient and contamination of specimens.Receive specimens sent to the laboratory and centrifuges blood specimens to separate cells from serum or plasma.Consult with Pathologist regarding difficult analysis or abnormal findings.After testing, discard samples per hospital policy or store per laboratory policy for future reference.Prepare reagents, solutions and stains according to standard formulas and procedures or manufacturer's recommendations.Perform gram stains, wet mounts and sets up bacterial cultures.
