Clinical Lab Scientist

Job Description Perform test procedures in Molecular Diagnostics. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes associated with specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results. Responsibilities Task A (65%): Perform Molecular Diagnostic Procedures Read and interpret SOPs; perform procedures in accordance with SOPs; obtain supervisor or medical director approval for deviations; ensure timely completion and reporting of results; maintain quality control and documentation; manage procedures updates and shift work; maintain a clean, safe work area with proper PPE; record results and quality control data; participate in special studies or projects as assigned; take responsibility for errors and communicate with required personnel. Task B (10%): Transcribe and report Molecular Diagnostics test results Review results before entering into computer systems; transcribe results legibly; validate results on the LIS; avoid altering results except through approved procedures; escalate unusual results as needed; communicate panic value results following established protocols. Task C (20%): Operate laboratory equipment and analytical instruments Operate equipment properly; monitor performance and notify supervisor of malfunctions; initiate troubleshooting with supervisor or specialist; perform maintenance as assigned; document maintenance and corrective actions; maintain appropriate workflow and turnaround times. Task D (5%): Maintain cooperative behavior and attendance Review notices and communicate work completion; inform supervisor if work cannot be completed; adhere to schedules and rotational assignments; maintain professionalism and punctuality; comply with policies and dress code; manage stress and maintain lab safety. Qualifications Required Qualifications California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist license Bachelor of Science degree Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations Preferred Qualifications Recent clinical experience in molecular diagnostics laboratory Experience in high-volume clinical laboratory testing Experience with current automation used in the Molecular Diagnostics section Required Licenses/Certifications California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist (CGMBS) license Equal Employment Opportunity The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
