Instructors must:
- Hold a current California license or certification as a registered nurse, licensed vocational nurse, or doctor of medicine
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school, or equivalent; or a valid teaching credential
- Have a minimum of two years experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years
- Posses a Certificate of Authorization to Teach or Faculty Approval by an applicable regulatory agency
General Duties & Responsibilities of Instructors
- Conduct classes and clinical instruction according to approved course requirements
- Check attendance and uniforms of all students attending class
- Demonstrate effective methodologies in carrying out the course of study
- Review the records of students to verify their completion
- Evaluate students’ performance according to the school grading system
- Provide counseling to students when necessary
- Attend periodic monitoring meetings and in-service programs of the school
- Recommend students for graduation and/or recognition
- Prepare instructional programs (lesson plans and clinical teaching plans)
- For clinical instruction faculty: when teaching clinical sessions, coordinate clinical experiences of students with clinical coordinators of clinical training facilities to achieve clinical goals
- For theory instructionsfaculty: when teaching nursing courses, demonstrate clinical competence in care of patients assigned to students
