We currently have a full-time, 40-hour position available for an Animal Husbandry Technician on our USDA registered sheep farm and laboratory in Benson, VT.Discover Impactful Work:This full-time, hands-on role will carry out all aspects of animal husbandry, welfare, and general farm operations across both sites. The individual will work independently and as part of a team to complete daily animal care and farm duties, ensuring animal health and welfare are maintained to a high standard at all times.Responsibilities include routine animal husbandry and treatments, maintaining animal housing and farm areas, and safely operating farm equipment, machinery, vehicles, and tools. Duties may vary based on animal care priorities, seasonal needs, and the day-to-day requirements of each farm.All work will be performed in accordance with current treatment policies and standard processes, USDA requirements, IACUC-approved protocols, the Animal Welfare Act, health and safety requirements, animal welfare guidelines, and company policies and standards.A Day in the Life:Carry out daily feeding regimes for all animals on the farm, including the preparation, mixing, and feeding of Total Mixed Rations (TMR)Routine and non-routine animal treatmentsParticipate in animal sorting or movementParticipate in herding and transfer of animals between farm sitesParticipate in the breeding/lambing programSafely operate farm equipment and machinery, including telehandlers, tractors, mixer wagons, and other equipment used in daily farm operationsAssist in keeping all housing buildings to USDA standardsEnsure all records are completed daily and accuratelyAny other requirements regarding the welfare and maintenance of animals, housing areas, and production areasKeys to Success:EducationHigh school diplomaExperienceKnowledge and experience of working with livestockKnowledge and experience operating farm equipmentKnowledge and experience of breeding/lambing, preferredKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesValid driving license requiredExcellent communication and organizational skills (written and verbal)Able to communicate at all levelsWork in a team settingAbility to multitask and prioritize workloadsAbility to proactively problem solveAttention to detailWork autonomouslyPhysical Requirements / Work EnvironmentDependability, reliability, and comfortable working in any weatherMust be flexible due to the unexpected nature of working with animals and on a farmWorking one weekend day is needed as part of the animal feeding staff rotationLift up to 50 pounds +/-Lifting, carrying, pushing, pullingReaching, twisting, turningWalking on uneven, wet, slippery surfacesBenefitsWe offer competitive remuneration, annual incentive plan bonus, healthcare, and a range of employee benefits. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
