Business Systems Analyst

Overview Under direct supervision, review, analyze, and evaluate department specific information technology systems, user needs, data and other insights from various sources to provide clear understanding and communication of those insights to aid the organization in sound decision‑making. Determines user needs and requirements and recommends ways to improve systems and validate through testing that the systems are designed and performing as specified. Serves as primary point of contact between users, management team and engineering/development staff. Responsibilities Analyze business needs and opportunities on simple business problems to drill into what is needed and why. Gather and organize information on problems, procedures, projects. Analyze gathered data and develop solutions, alternative methods of proceeding, or summary assessments. Prepare research reports. May advise others on business or operational matters. Discuss data systems, business strategies, practices, or policies with managers to understand how to improve systems. May lead/coordinate system testing and compile UAT documentation. When appropriate confer with individuals to ensure successful functioning of newly implemented/revised systems or procedures. May review forms and reports and confer with management and users about format, distribution, and purpose, and identify problems and improvements. May design, implement, and maintain business process reviews and quality assurance programs that monitor new or changed programs. May interview individuals and conduct on‑site observation to ascertain unit/department functions, work performed, methods, equipment, and staff used in order to improve systems. May document findings of study and prepare recommendations for implementation of new systems or procedures. May document business processes both in technical step‑by‑step formats and in work flow diagrams. May design, evaluate, recommend, and approve changes to forms and reports. May plan study of work problems, processes, procedures, such as organizational change, communications, information flow, integrated productions methods, inventory control, or cost analysis, etc. May serve as operations advisor to technical teams on projects involving technical solutions. May lead operations based project initiatives that outline tasks associated with IT project work. Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with the IT department. Performs project analysis and writes requirements and specifications to implement modifications and enhancements to data processing systems to support management control and decision‑making activities. Reviews and analyzes external drivers for the business and conducts “best practices” research. Participates in matching technology to business needs and providing technical consulting services to users. Provides business expertise to IT department. Assists clients in developing and maintaining system and/or training manuals. May support user training as a subject matter expert. Applies principles of mathematical or logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Work productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis. Respond positively to direction and feedback on performance. Consistently maintain professional and appropriate demeanor. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience. 3+ years directly related, progressively responsible business experience in subdiscipline. Agile experience is required. P&C insurance experience is a plus. Entry‑level knowledge of commonly‑used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Demonstrated ability to negotiate options, resolve conflicts, and influence others on business topics. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation skills. May require specific certification(s). Pay, Benefits, And Other Information The expected salary range for this position is $63,568.62 - $79,460.78. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job‑related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
