The Assistant Coach will lead the JV program and assist the Head Coach with practice, games and recruitment of players each season in accordance with University and NAIA rules and regulations. Assistant Coaches must make prospective student-athletes aware of all policies and procedures in the University Regulations and the Athletic Handbook.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesAssist Recruiting Efforts of Student/AthletesInstruct student-athletes in all aspects of the sport and establishing adherence guidelines associated with NAIA Mid-South conference rules as well as the University’s policiesInstruction/establishment of comprehensive safety method and standards for student-athletesResearch and preparation of academic teaching methodology relating to sportAssist with the coordination, planning and development of the sport programLeading and monitoring both training and practice sessionsDevelop and maintain effective interaction with students, staff, alumni, parents, etc.Mentoring and supporting each student-athlete to maximize their academic successReview of films to continually improve the success of the programEvaluate any playersEnsure that injured players receive appropriate careSchedule games and practices seeking to minimize scheduling conflicts as much as practicable and to maximize fan participation to the extent possibleAttend all practices having a clear and organized practice planTransport the team to away contests, by either driving or having a driver arrangedAssist in managing the JV team budgetAssist in managing team fundraising effortsAttend all coaches meetingsAssist in handling all aspects of camps and clinics offeredConsistently communicate with the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director regarding matters related to the program when necessaryConsistently communicate with the Athletic Director, Faculty Athletic Representative and Assistant Athletic Director regarding all eligibility and academic issues when necessaryConsistently communicate with the Head Coach and Athletic Director regarding scholarship offersAssist in managing all recruiting, practice, and travel formsAssist in managing game day operationsAdhere to the Athletic Department’s RegulationsAdhere to and promote the University and the Athletic Department mission, philosophy, and objectivesAdhere to and promote University policy and all respectsGeneral maintenance to the fields, weight rooms and gyms, which may require lifting or moving of equipment weighing 50 poundsMust be able to stand for long periods of timeKnowledge, Skillsand AbilitiesThis is a twelve month position reporting to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach must have a strong commitment to Athletics and exceptional independent judgment, problem solving, planning skills, and the ability to effectively motivate student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must have the knowledge to teach the sport and the ability to recruit. The Assistant Coach must display professionalism in all aspects of the position.Experience1-3 years of college coaching/playing experience preferredEducationBachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferredPhysical Requirements and Working ConditionsRequires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Work is conducted in a high-paced and very stressful environment.
