Long Term Sub - Speech Language Pathologist 1st Semester (September 3rd - Dec 18th) QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Endorsed in SPSY (School Psychologist) or SSW (School Social Worker) National certification from NASP (highly preferred) Bilingual Spanish and/or English Learner (EL) experience (preferred) SALARY: $305.22 per diem

Job Description

Job Goal

To help diagnose and treat speech and language disabilities that interferes with the student's ability to communicate effectively within the district's educational program.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Determines the type and severity of disorders in all areas of communication and the amount of service utilizing the current SLP eligibility.

2. Utilizes appropriate formal and informal diagnostic procedures from a variety of sources to complete evaluations

3. Provides input to the Individualized Education Program (IEP) concerning annual goal and benchmarks for each child's current level of functioning, and to support the curriculum.

4. Collect data and update the student's progress on the IEP.

5. Recommends duration, intensity and type of service that students with communication disabilities may need appropriate to student's educational needs suggested by the Speech/Language Eligibility Criteria.

6. Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide services and support for students with communication disabilities.

7. Prepares lesson plans and treatment materials that accommodate the student's learning style.

8. Identifies, uses, and disseminates evidence-based practices for speech and language services or RTI interventions.

9. Provides therapy that is clear, concise, and appropriate to the student's level of understanding, language use and communication style.

10. Uses appropriate cues/prompts with the student to elicit correct articulations/communication responses.

11. Assists the Educational Team with integrating assistive technology into the student's curriculum for communication.

12. Serves as a communication consultant and resource person to classroom teachers, school personnel and parents/guardians.

13. Provide consultation through models, such as

• Team meetings to discuss each child's progress
• Instruction in the classroom setting to classroom teachers and teacher support staff on carryover techniques
• Monitor students within the classroom setting
• Meet monthly/quarterly with students requiring minimal remediation/service
• Helping parents/guardians understand the language basis of literacy and learning as well as specific language issues pertinent to an individual child.

14. Participates in regularly scheduled Educational Team meetings and the Annual Review process.

15. Provides appropriate assessment data and utilize Exit Criteria for student dismissal from Speech and Language services.

16. Informs parents/guardians of the team's recommendation, if they are not in attendance at the team meeting.

17. Maintains and submits paperwork and case study evaluation reports.
