PERSONNEL COORDINATOR
Greater Southern Tier BOCES
- Full-time position (1.0 FTE), 8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year
The following activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed
Administers and coordinates all civil service processes for GST BOCES including processing personnel transactions
Ensures timely and accurate reporting to the appropriate Civil Service agency
Maintains compliance with Civil Service Law, rules and regulations
Serves as the primary resource and advisor to supervisors, administrators and human resource staff regarding civil service requirements
Provides clear guidance on appropriate hiring procedures, and interprets and communicates civil service rules and policies
Services in the teacher certification application process to those employed within the GST BOCES region
Assists with the processing of required documents to NYSED for teachers, teaching assistants, pupil personnel services staff and coaching licenses
Liaison between current/protentional instructional staff and the New York State Department of Education including GST BOCES and its member districts
Develops, maintains and updates internal procedures, reference materials and training resources
Conducts training sessions for supervisors and human resource staff to ensure understanding of applicable laws and procedures
Provides general human resources support including recordkeeping, audits, responding to employee inquiries, and assisting with compliance reviews
Ensures accuracy and confidentiality of personnel records
Performs other related personnel functions
Salary: Commensurate with related experience, plus comprehensive benefit package
Job Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of or the ability to learn the general principles and practices used in modern personnel and civil service administration; thorough knowledge of the New York State Civil Service Law and its application to the local government; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interpret regulations and provide clear guidance; high level of organization and attention to detail.
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered Bachelor’s Degree; or
Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited of New York State registered college or university and two (2) years of staff administration* experience; or
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four (4) years of staff administration experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C), above
*Staff Administration; is defined as work involving responsibility for personnel processes, policy interpretation, procedural coordination, or administrative support functions within the organization.
