CAD Technician

CAD Design & 3D Printing AssistantWe are seeking a CAD Design & 3D Printing Assistant to support product development, prototyping, and additive manufacturing operations. This role combines CAD design, 3D modeling, and hands-on 3D printing responsibilities, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy both technical design work and working directly with manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will create and modify 3D models, prepare files for production, operate 3D printing equipment, and collaborate with design and product development teams to bring new concepts to life.CAD Design & ModelingCreate and modify 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software, with SolidWorks preferredTranslate sketches, concepts, and engineering inputs into detailed 3D modelsPrepare and optimize files for additive manufacturing, including print orientation and support generationMaintain organized digital files and version control for design revisions3D Printing OperationsSet up, operate, and monitor 3D printers, including FDM, SLA, SLS, or similar technologiesPrepare print jobs using slicing software such as Cura, Orca Slicer, or Bambu StudioPerform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshootingManage print queues and ensure timely completion of production requestsPost-Processing & Quality ControlPerform post-processing activities including support removal, sanding, curing, and finishingInspect printed components for quality, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to specificationsDocument inspection results and support continuous improvement initiativesCollaboration & SupportWork closely with Product Development and Design teams throughout the development cycleIncorporate feedback and assist with design revisions and prototype iterationsSupport material selection and evaluation of new additive manufacturing processes and technologiesRequired QualificationsAssociate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CAD, Engineering Technology, or a related fieldProficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar platformsFamiliarity with 3D printing technologies and additive manufacturing workflowsExperience using slicing software for print preparationStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsExcellent organizational and time-management abilitiesAbility to manage multiple projects and meet deadlinesStrong communication and teamwork skillsPreferred QualificationsHands-on experience with FDM, SLA, SLS, or other additive manufacturing systemsExperience in product development, prototyping, or engineering environmentsUnderstanding of mechanical design principlesExperience with post-processing techniques and materialsMechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting experienceDemonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologiesWork EnvironmentCombination of office-based design work and hands-on lab/shop activitiesRegular use of CAD software, 3D printers, and finishing equipmentMay involve light physical activity, including climbing ladders and handling equipment and materialsUse of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, may be required when working with certain materials and processes
