Job Description:\n\nJob Description COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Pay Rate: $30.00–$33.00 per hour This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. Additional information about our compensation scales is available at: SUMMARY:Under routine direction, assists the Senior Manager of Loss Prevention with the daily operations of the Loss Prevention Department including providing support to all Aztec Shops retail stores, markets, housing and dining facilities, including Snapdragon Stadium, to combat external theft, internal theft, and shrinkage. The Assistant Manager continuously evaluates Loss Prevention policies, procedures, and practices and remains current on emerging theft trends, prevention methods, and industry strategies. In the absence of the Senior Manager of Loss Prevention or other department management, the Assistant Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Loss Prevention Department and provides direction and support to Loss Prevention staff. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Assists management with the daily operations, and theft related incidents.Assists management to ensure that proper procedures and guidelines are in place to reduce shrinkage and limit liability to Aztec Shops.Serve as the day to day lead for hourly Loss Prevention Agents.Ensure Loss Prevention Agents are executing tasks effectively and consistently and work with Senior Manager, Loss Prevention to make sure team goals are met.Support Loss Prevention Agents during active incidents (e.g., theft, fraud), ensuring proper protocols are followed.Support Snapdragon Stadium events in addressing incidents involving improper alcohol service, overservice, and other alcohol-related concerns.Assist with Aztec Shops access control.Serve as the main point of contact for Loss Prevention matters including customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction in the absence of Loss Prevention Management.Assists with planning, coordinating, and preparing investigations involving internal and external theft.Operate in a sensitive political environment requiring a high degree of discretion and confidentiality.Ensure the safety and security of all residents, guests, staff and property at all Aztec Shops owned, operated or leased locations, including residential locations.Manage the civil demand process and have oversight of the meal plan spot checks.Oversees and trains employees engaged in surveilling and apprehending theft suspects.Oversight of ensuring proper records are maintained and proper video surveillance of all apprehensions is maintained in accordance with California State University (CSU) policies and applicable laws.Develops and maintains professional and positive working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, University Police, university personnel, and other law enforcement agencies and security contractors.Operates under the authority of California Penal Code Section 490.5(f)(1) when apprehending theft suspects.Responsible for management of Grad-Fest security contract.Provide in-person Loss Prevention awareness training to all Aztec Shops Dining and Bookstore employees.Evaluates the appropriate surveillance camera coverage in Aztec Shops locations and works with the Senior Manager of Loss Prevention on the coordination of any repairs with the contractor.Assist with the upkeep and management of all alarm systems, including training new personnel.Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, health.Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:The minimum requirement for applicants is a High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) degree; plus at least five years of experience in Loss Prevention/Security Management experience. Some college, Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), or other investigative certification preferred. At least one year in a supervisory role. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in loss prevention and safety.Responsible Alcohol Beverage (RBS) certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months of position start date.Must be proficient in use of computers, CCTV systems, and Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, radio communications and etiquette. This position may involve operating a company vehicle and/or golf cart on university or company property. As such, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and have not been issued more than three moving violations or have been responsible for more than three accidents (or any combination of more than three thereof during the past 12-month period). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to provide proof of driving eligibility upon hire. This position may require travel to off-site locations. In accordance with California Senate Bill 1100, employees may use alternative transportation such as public transit or rideshare services. However, individuals may not be driven or dropped off by anyone other than an authorized driver. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS LANGUAGE SKILLS:Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, regulations, and policy manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, coworkers, vendors, other departments, customers, and the general public. Ability to complete written suspect apprehension reports using computer software. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables and active opposition. Must be able to make sound decisions in high stress environments where the consequences of error are great. MANUAL DEXTERITY:Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment. PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION:Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds to allow for normal and emergency communication between individuals and adequate perception of audible warning devices and use of digital radio systems. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods and may be required to move quickly or run in response to theft, security incidents, emergencies, or other situations requiring immediate action.The position may require physical intervention in accordance with established Loss Prevention policies, training, and applicable law, including the ability to reach, grasp, push, pull, restrain, or otherwise physically respond when necessary during an authorized apprehension or incident. The employee must be able to safely perform these activities using approved techniques and may occasionally be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.The position requires the ability to navigate (ascend/descend) stairs, uneven surfaces, crowded environments, and indoor and outdoor locations while maintaining awareness of surrounding conditions.Sufficient visual ability is required to effectively observe individuals, activities, and surroundings both directly and through video surveillance systems, and to review reports, electronic information, and other work-related materials.The position requires the ability to operate computers, video surveillance systems, communication devices, and other Loss Prevention and security-related equipment.The employee must also be able to effectively receive and exchange information during investigations, surveillance activities, apprehensions, emergencies, and other Loss Prevention activities, including in environments with significant background noise. WORKING CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS: operational activities, with occasional assignments at Aztec Shops locations on the SDSU campus. Work environments are dynamic and may include stadium concourses, food and beverage locations, seating and event areas, offices, storage areas, parking lots, and other indoor and outdoor locations. During stadium events, the employee regularly works in high-traffic and crowded environments with sustained loud noise, amplified music and announcements, flashing or rapidly changing event lighting, and significant pedestrian activity. The position may require prolonged standing and walking, frequent movement throughout the stadium, and navigating stairs, ramps, concourses, and other areas during periods of high attendance. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures, including heat, cold, sun, wind, and rain, as well as dust, allergens, food preparation environments, and other conditions associated with stadium and event operations. Due to the nature of Loss Prevention responsibilities, the employee may encounter theft, fraud, disruptive behavior, intoxicated individuals, confrontational situations, and other security-related incidents. The position requires maintaining situational awareness and responding appropriately in unpredictable or rapidly changing circumstances in accordance with established policies, procedures, training, and applicable law. Occasional work at SDSU campus locations may include retail, dining, office, residential, and other operational environments with varying levels of noise, pyrotechnics, fireworks, announcements, pedestrian traffic, hot and cold temperatures, and heavy public activity. This position requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential functions of the role and is not eligible for remote work. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5. Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. This may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
