Job Description

The Quality Inspector is responsible for reviewing products and materials to ensure that all internal and external quality requirements are consistently met. This role focuses on measuring parts against specifications and drawings, identifying nonconformities, reporting findings, and supporting problem-solving efforts across multiple production areas, including operations, brazing, testing, and assembly.

Responsibilities

• Establish quality standards for the products produced and ensure these standards are consistently applied throughout the manufacturing process.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to verify that operations meet defined production and quality standards.
• Measure objects and parts using precision tools such as calipers and micrometer screw gauges to confirm adherence to specifications.
• Inspect and test materials and finished products as required, performing visual inspections and quality checks to identify defects or nonconformities.
• Accept or reject finished products based on inspection results and communicate findings clearly to the production team.
• Recommend adjustments and changes to production processes when needed to improve product quality and ensure compliance with standards.
• Remove products that do not meet production standards and propose strategies to prevent recurrence and enhance overall quality performance.
• Perform random inspections to assess ongoing product quality and verify that processes remain in control.
• Support and collaborate with every department, including operators, brazing, testing, and assembly, to check specifications and maintain quality throughout the workflow.
• Provide problem-solving input and act as a resource to help resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing processes.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards to support safety, efficiency, and quality.
• Take on additional duties or assist in other departments as operational needs change, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how parts, tools, and equipment function in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment with exposure to quality control or quality assurance activities.
• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometer screw gauges for dimensional inspection.
• Experience performing visual inspections and quality checks to identify defects, irregularities, or deviations from specifications.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate quality issues and support effective corrective actions.
• High attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements, thorough inspections, and reliable documentation.
• Technical skills and the ability to understand blueprints, technical documents, and manuals related to production and quality standards.
• Knowledge of basic math and computer skills to support measurement, data entry, and reporting of inspection results.
• Ability to influence others to follow rules, regulations, and established quality procedures.
• Strong leadership qualities combined with a teamwork mentality to collaborate effectively with production and cross-functional teams.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills to convey inspection findings and recommendations.
• Dexterity, physical strength, and stamina to perform inspections, handle materials, and remain effective throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production workflows, particularly in environments that rely on precision measurements and quality assurance.
• Comfort working with hoists or similar equipment in a production setting, where applicable to material handling.
• Understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles, including visual inspection techniques and process improvement concepts.
• Ability to participate in daily shift meetings and collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in line with 5S and other workplace organization standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Richmond,VA.
