Controller – Beverage Distribution

Location: Clifton, NJ (On-site)

Job Type: Full-Time

What You’ll Do (The Impact You’ll Make)

Financial Management & Strategic Reporting

• Drive the Close: Masterfully manage and execute the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are perfectly reconciled.
• Own the Metrics: Prepare accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, overseeing all daily operations across the GL, AR, AP, inventory, and payroll.
• CPA Partnership: Act as the primary point of contact for our external CPA firm to ensure seamless tax filings and year-end reviews.

Cash Flow & Working Capital Optimization

• Predict & Protect: Develop and maintain precision cash flow forecasts to closely monitor liquidity.
• Optimize AR/AP: Lead accounts receivable, collections, and vendor payment strategies—refining AR aging, credit policies, and payment terms to maximize working capital.

Inventory & Operational Analysis

• Inventory Integrity: Partner closely with operations to oversee valuation, costing, and reconciliation, keeping a sharp eye on variances and shrinkage.
• Profitability Deep Dives: Build out robust margin reporting by SKU, customer, and channel. You will dive into account profitability for major players like Costco, Jetro, Restaurant Depot, and direct store delivery (DSD) to support smart pricing decisions.

Compliance & Process Innovation

• Guard the Controls: Establish airtight internal controls, sales tax filings, and audit readiness.
• Navigate Regional Regulations: Maintain compliance with state and local regulations, specifically overseeing New York State container deposit laws (Bottle Bill) accounting.
• Tech-Driven Efficiency: Act as our ERP champion. You will optimize our Sage 100 ERP system , leveraging automation and modern AI tools to eliminate manual bottlenecks and elevate data accuracy.

Who You Are

• An Industry Veteran: You have a minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Controller (or equivalent) specifically within the distribution, beverage, or consumer goods sectors.
• A Inventory Expert: You possess deep, hands-on experience with inventory valuation, cost accounting, and managing complex AR/collections pipelines.
• Detail-Oriented & Hands-On: You love getting into the weeds of financial modeling but can lift your head up to communicate clearly with non-financial operational teams.
• A Systems Innovator: You are a proactive problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset who actively looks for ways to replace manual tasks with smart tech solutions.

Qualifications

Required:

• 5+ years of Controller experience in a small to mid-sized business.
• Solid background in distribution, beverage, or CPG industries.
• Profound understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with ERP systems (preferably Sage 100 or similar).
• Knowledge of NYS container deposit accounting and reporting.

Preferred:

• CPA license or a background in public accounting/audit.
• Experience navigating the unique, agile dynamics of a family-owned or entrepreneurial business.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling wizardry.
