Production Planning and Scheduling Manager

Position Details Reports to: Site General Manager Direct Reports: Work Order Processing, Planning, Purchasing FLSA Status: Exempt Wage Scale: $??/year Position Summary The role of the Manager, Production Planning and Scheduling, is to lead the master scheduling and production planning for the site through direct oversight and coordination of order execution activities within multiple departments. This position will include production scheduling and capacity planning in collaboration with the sales team and operational personnel. This position will work closely with the departments to develop achievable plans to balance demand and capacity for the production of high-quality products at the best possible cost and timeline. Strong leadership, communication, and organization will be critical for success. Essential Functions
- Maintain accurate scheduling and planning information within the ERP/MRP system, ensuring data integrity for work orders, routings, and lead times.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the master production schedule to support customer demand, delivery commitments, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Sourcing, Quality, and Commercial to align production plans with material availability, capacity, outside services, and customer priorities.
- Monitor and adjust production schedules to respond to changes in demand, equipment availability, labor capacity, material, and supplier constraints.
- Collaborate with commercial team/estimators to put together proposals for production timing and producibility for submittal to customers.
- Interface with customers and vendors as needed to resolve technical issues, provide order status, and obtain data necessary for successful completion of projects.
- Work with Customer Service to receive and process customer orders as well as any correspondence with the customer
- Lead the production planning/scheduling and purchasing teams, providing direction, training, and performance management to ensure scheduling accuracy and accountability.
- Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaborate with purchasing and sourcing teams to ensure materials, components, and services are available to support production schedules.
- Drive improvements in on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory levels, and production efficiency.
- Develop and monitor key operational metrics and reporting, including schedule attainment, backlog management, and production throughput.
- Support new program launches and ramp-ups, ensuring production capacity and scheduling align with business growth and customer requirements.
- Work with manufacturing leadership to support continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing and workflow optimization.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and quality requirements within all production planning and scheduling activities.
- Communicate schedule updates, risks, and production impacts to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Advanced knowledge of shop workflow and capabilities within commercial metal working
- Advanced knowledge of production shop scheduling, bottleneck management, and high mix / low volume production
- Proficient knowledge problem-solving and continuous improvement methodologies and tools
- Proficient knowledge of manufacturing capabilities specific to Prototek
- Proficient knowledge of industry materials, applications, and technologies
- Proficient knowledge of reading designs, prints, and other technical drawings/files
- Proficient knowledge on quoting / estimating for contract manufacturing
- Proficient knowledge of the ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards
- Demonstrate motivation and accountability to achieve individual and department goals; work effectively under pressure with limited supervision
- Organize, prioritize and manage multiple medium to high complexity projects in a cross-functional environment
- Demonstrate interpersonal and leadership skills to inspire and motivate teamwork
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills to tactfully manage interactions with subordinates and colleagues

- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing technology, related discipline, or relevant work experience
- A minimum of 5 years' experience required in similar role within a manufacturing environment
- 3+ years' relevant management experience in prototyping or manufacturing industry required
- Experience in QMS, lean manufacturing, and six sigma preferred
- Experience in ISO9001 or AS9100 quality systems preferred
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers. equipment, and handle and feel small and large parts
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and crouch occasionally throughout shift
- Ability to push, pull or lift up to 50 lbs moderately throughout workday.
- Ability to focus vision for: close vision, color vision, depth perception and adjusting to sharp focus
- Noise conditions can be moderate to extreme, ear protection required and provided
- Work environment exposures include fumes or airborne particles (PPE available upon request) and moving mechanical parts and vibration.

- Remote work not available
- 5-10% travel: between company facilities, vendor/customer visits, conferences, etc.
