Position Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for supporting the Operating Room team by ensuring surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, assembled, and available for patient care. This role also manages inventory, sterilization tracking, and the operation of sterilization equipment to maintain the highest standards of patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Prepare and deliver sterile instruments and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Maintain inventory and storage of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment, including:
• • Autoclaves
  • Washer disinfectors
  • Ultrasonic cleaners
• Utilize computerized sterilization tracking systems to document and monitor processing activities.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and sterilization standards.
• Support the Operating Room team by providing accurate and timely instrument availability.

Preferred Experience

• Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience handling surgical, medical, or dental instruments within the past four years.
• OR Vocational Certificate as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant obtained within the past two years.
• OR Minimum 2 years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Experience with:
• • General Urology instrumentation
  • Gynecology (GYN) instrumentation
  • Da Vinci Robotic Surgical Systems

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.
  

Required Certifications

• Must be 18 years of age before the start date.
• CBSPD or CRCST certification is required by the hiring manager prior to the start date.
• Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) CRCST certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire if applicable.
• BLS is not required.
