Fleet Technician

The County of San Diego has current openings for Fleet Technicians to maintain and repair the County's fleet vehicles. Interviews will take place the week of July 13th, 2026, and JOB OFFERS will be made the week of July 20th, 2026. The starting salary for this position will be based on the candidate's qualifications at time of appointment. Future Salary Increases June 2026 10.35% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 7.35% Market Adjustment) June 2027 10.25% increase to base pay (2.9% Across-the-Board + 7.35% Market Adjustment) ASE Certification Premium Employees will be paid the full cost of testing, which includes any registration fees and testing for ASE Certifications upon furnishing satisfactory evidence that the employee passed the ASE Certification.

Fleet Technicians perform preventive maintenance and minor repair tasks, diagnostics, inspections, smog testing, and maneuverability problems on automotive, truck, construction, and industrial equipment and to perform related work as required. Incumbents in this class may act as lead workers providing technical guidance and training to less experienced technicians performing preventive maintenance task.

Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of experience servicing motorized vehicular equipment, including lubrication, in a commercial, industrial, or governmental service center. Notes Completion of appropriate course work from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis. Possession of A/C and Refrigerant licenses are highly desirable. ASE certification in four (4) of the eight (8) areas for either an Automobile Technician or Medium/Heavy Truck Technician is highly desirable. A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment. A valid California Class A or B driver's license must be obtained within twelve (12) months of appointment, and maintained throughout employment in this class, for technicians who perform public road testing on equipment requiring an A or B driver's license to operate on public roads. When not required for a specific assignment, possession of a valid California Class A or B driver's license is highly desirable.
