Registered Nurse Responsibilities The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population in order to achieve desired outcomes. The role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. The RN directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. Assessment: Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation; performs age and disease specific assessment; recognizes clinical status changes. Planning: Develops a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes; formulates age and disease specific patient/family centered goals; coordinates a patient/family focused plan. Implementation: Communicates, coordinates, and implements the plan of care; provides ongoing communication with patients, families, nursing colleagues, and other health care team members; performs age and disease specific care in an organized manner; documents events and care. Evaluation: Evaluates progress toward outcomes; utilizes critical thinking skills to achieve desired patient outcomes; initiates interventions related to changes in condition. Additional Responsibilities Identifies ethical issues in the practice setting and brings them to the attention of team members. Recognizes and responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction. Maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or licensing requirements. Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Lifts a minimum of 35 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day. Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Associate in Nursing or diploma of Nursing degree. BSN in progress or to be obtained within three years of hire (for hires on or after November 2019); BSN required within five years for staff RN under union contract; advanced master’s degree satisfies BSN requirement. Six months or more of relevant nursing experience or participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program. Strong sense of accountability, teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high‑quality patient care. Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred National certification in area of specialty preferred. Licenses And Certifications Required Current and valid Registered Nurse license at the assigned HMH location by date of hire. BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association within 60 days of hire. Pay and Benefits Minimum hourly rate of $47.64. Pay is based on market data, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions may also apply. Shift differentials available for evening, night, or weekend shifts. Full‑time and part‑time (20+ hours/week) positions include a comprehensive benefits package: health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
