This is an experienced athletic training position with clinical responsibilities to one or more orthopedic physicians under the direction of the Sports Medicine or Orthopedic Clinic Manager. Description Under the direction of the Sports Medicine or Orthopedic Clinic Manager, this experienced athletic training position involves clinical responsibilities to orthopedic physicians. The incumbent must possess clinical evaluation and educational skills expected of an athletic trainer. Primary duties include patient evaluation, diagnosis, education, documentation, and coordination of care. The role requires minimal supervision while performing the following: Perform clinical evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology consistent with the scope of athletic training competencies. Conduct a thorough medical history and physical examination for each patient, covering injury history, primary complaint, pain level, medication review, and functional testing. Order and interpret diagnostic studies under physician direction, including radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, and referrals. Provide patient‑specific education, exercise instruction, and answer questions regarding treatment plans, surgery, rehabilitation, and future care. Document each patient visit in electronic medical records, including history, physical exam, diagnostic results, impression, plan, and patient learning objectives. Assist the physician with injection procedures performed in the office and provide post‑operative wound care, suture removal, and dressing changes as directed. Respond promptly to patient phone calls and handle general office duties as assigned by physicians or clinic manager. Identify the need to develop or revise policies and procedures related to sports medicine patients or departmental practices; implement clinic initiatives concerning patient safety, compliance, and staff development. Serve as a mentor for the Athletic Training Residency program, participating in teaching and educational sessions. Act as a clinical resource for the call center, front desk, and other administrative personnel. Cover community outreach events as required by program manager. Assist with physician research projects and demonstrate progression on specific projects. Minimum Qualifications Nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC) Georgia state licensure Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related profession Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including medical terminology Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association Physical Requirements Medium max 25 lbs: lift 15‑25 lbs for up to 25 % of the workday (occasionally), 11‑25 lbs for 34‑66 % of the workday (frequently), 0‑10 lbs for 67‑100 % of the workday (constantly). Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs. Frequent standing, walking, occasional sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks. Environmental Factors Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, temperature extremes (hot/cold), indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, radiation, shift work, travel may be required. Personal protective equipment, including respirators, is used as appropriate.
