Career ConsultantThe Career Consultant serves as the primary career services liaison to assigned colleges or schools at the University of Georgia. This role acts as a critical link between the Career Center and the college, serving as a resource for students, employers, and faculty on career planning, industry trends, and professional development. Internally, the Career Consultant advocates for the college's career-related needs and serves as a key referral point for students and stakeholders. Career Consultants provide comprehensive career coaching and programming support related to career exploration, job search strategies, skill development, experiential learning, graduate school preparation, and employment opportunities for program-specific undergraduate and graduate students. They develop industry connections relevant to students' career interests and foster mentorship opportunities with UGA alumni. Additionally, they collaborate closely with faculty, academic advisors, and student services staff to integrate career development into the student experience.Knowledge of career needs, skills, and trends related to students, general career development and job market trends. Strong Interpersonal Skills, Counseling Skills, Presentation Skills, Program Development Skills. Ability to develop strong relationships with referring faculty and administrators. Ability to develop rapport with students. Ability to serve the career development needs of students with varied experiences and perspectives.Work evenings and weekends as necessary. Work in a standard office environment. Travel in and out of state as necessary. Sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time. Work using electronic mail, telephone, face-to-face discussions, paper form correspondence. Communicate effectively in writing, speaking, and listening. Organize and establish priorities; Remember detail; multi-task. Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Walk, stand, stoop, lift, kneel, climb.Duties/Responsibilities - Career Education, Coaching, and Student Outreach. Provide comprehensive career education and coaching through one-on-one appointments and in groups on career related topics including major and career exploration, resume/cover letter critiques, job, and internship search strategies, applying to graduate or professional school, mock interviews, networking, and addressing any additional needs of students and recent alumni within their respective college and/or major populations. Develop core presentations for college/major-specific outreach requests and for Arch Ready Professionalism programs. Provide staffing support for office-wide career fairs and events that promote the career development of students and alumni. Market upcoming events, fairs, workshops, and resources to students through Handshake, departmental contacts, and college/major-specific listservs. In collaboration with supervisor, define annual performance goals for career education. Assist with additional student populations as available to support the Career Center's ability to see students in a timely manner.Duties/Responsibilities - Faculty and Campus Engagement. Develop and maintain relationships with key principals, e.g., Deans, Department Chairs, Undergraduate Coordinators, friends of the CC (individually and in groups), within the colleges/majors as needed to understand their strategic goals and student services priorities, to identify opportunities for increased engagement. Coordinate outreach requests for programming and provide customized seminars/workshops based on student needs assessments and faculty requests. Serve as the liaison between the UGA Career Center's Academic Integration team and assigned school/college to strategically integrate career education and assignments into curricula and co-curricular activities. Implement office-wide faculty communications strategy to serve as a liaison for assigned college(s).Duties/Responsibilities - Employer, Mentor, and Alumni Engagement. Strategically engage mentors/alumni for college-specific career development programming, including but not limited to Arch Ready, classroom presentations, panels, networking events etc. Collaborate with the UGA Mentor Program team to help promote population-specific mentorship opportunities through various communication channels within your designated school/college (Circles of Success, unmatched mentors, etc.). Connect with appropriate employers during Career Fairs, panel events, on-campus interviewing, and through various college-sponsored clubs and organizations. Analyze career fair data and industry trends to support Employer Relations and College strategy, with the guidance of the Career Center's Employer Relations team. Distribute communications to students about which employers are seeking their major or experience prior to career fairs based on Employer Relations and Handshake data. Maintain adequate knowledge of academic majors/tracks/trends through contact with administrators, faculty, college staff, students, and employers, and through information provided by the department, college, regional, and national publications.Duties/Responsibilities - Committees, Projects, & Teams. Serve on internal Career Center committees and/or university-wide committees throughout the year to create and implement strategic career services, resources, and campus partnerships for the career development of students. Regularly attend division-wide events and meetings, including DiscoverDAR, Townhall, Development meetings, etc. Provide appointment support to high-demand populations (i.e., Pre-Health and Recent Alumni) during peak seasons to balance consultant expectations. Staff University Orientation and campus partner recruitment events, as needed.
