Staff NurseThe Staff Nurse provides high-quality, individualized nursing care through expert assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role is dedicated to ensuring a safe, compassionate, and goal-directed environment for patients and their families. The Staff Nurse acts as a patient advocate, ensuring clinical excellence and safety standards are met throughout the perioperative process.Essential ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & Patient AdvocacyAssessment & Monitoring: Continually assess and monitor the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual status of patients through direct observation and interaction.Diagnostic Interpretation: Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting diagnostic measures, including lab results, radiology exams, and EKGs.Care Coordination: Formulate and communicate individualized patient goals; utilize professional judgment to resolve clinical problems and advocate for patient needs.Infection Control: Adhere to strict environmental safety and infection control practices to minimize nosocomial risks.Documentation: Ensure all patient information and Center documents are recorded accurately, timely, and maintained with strict confidentiality.Surgical & Technical SupportPerioperative Assistance: Prepare sterile supplies, set up instrumentation, and assist surgeons during procedures in accordance with Center policy.Aseptic Technique: Maintain a sterile field at all times and perform correct counts of sponges and sharps according to safety standards.Specimen & Wound Care: Assist in the collection and care of specimens, application of dressings/casts, and safe patient positioning/transfer.Technical Versatility: Maintain readiness to assume the Surgical Technician role as required by the surgical schedule.Decontamination: Oversee the proper decontamination of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies post-procedure.Teamwork & OperationsEffective Communication: Maintain a positive, caring, and professional demeanor with patients, physicians, and co-workers.Staff Development: Assist in the orientation and supervision of new employees to ensure clinical standards are upheld.Resource Management: Efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to ensure cost-effective care without compromising quality.Facility Readiness: Maintain expert knowledge of the location and use of all emergency drugs and life-saving equipment.Experience & Educational RequirementsEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.Licensure: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in PACU or Operating Room nursing.Certifications:Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required/preferred).Evidence of ongoing continuing education in perioperative or perianesthesia nursing.BenefitsWe value the work our employees do and are committed to offering competitive pay along with access to benefits designed to support your health, financial well-being, and everyday life.
