Step into a meaningful contract role shaping the educational experience for elementary students within an Autism Program in a self-contained classroom setting. This position centers on providing personalized, evidence-based instruction to learners on the autism spectrum, supporting both their cognitive growth and emotional regulation.
Your background in special education and experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder will be vital as you create a nurturing, structured environment tailored to significant behavioral and cognitive needs. Utilize your knowledge of ABA principles, visual schedules, social stories, and functional communication systems to deliver consistent support and measurable progress.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid VA Special Education teaching license required
- Prior experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- History of working in self-contained special education classrooms
- Understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and structured teaching
- Skilled with visual schedules, social stories, and adaptive communication systems
- Background in addressing significant behavioral and cognitive challenges
- Crisis prevention and de-escalation training highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and individualized educational plans in a self-contained autism classroom
- Implement evidence-based strategies, including ABA and structured teaching
- Develop and maintain visual schedules and functional communication supports
- Foster classroom routines designed to increase independence and social interaction
- Collaborate with support staff and families to enhance student outcomes
- Monitor student progress, adapting interventions as needed
