Job Title: Operations & Maintenance Technician – Solar PV and BESS

Job Description

This role focuses on executing routine and preventive maintenance inspections on solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets. You ensure system reliability by identifying deficiencies, performing scheduled maintenance, and thoroughly documenting all inspection and maintenance activities in the field.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance inspections on solar PV and BESS assets to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Conduct inverter preventive maintenance (PMs), including visual inspections, cleaning, testing, and functional checks.
• Carry out IV curve tracing to assess string performance and identify underperforming modules or strings.
• Perform infrared (IR) scans to detect hot spots, loose connections, and other potential electrical issues.
• Measure and verify open-circuit voltage (VOC) and other electrical parameters to confirm proper system performance.
• Conduct annual site visits and inspections, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Execute field inspections of PV systems, inverters, and balance-of-system equipment to identify deficiencies and maintenance needs.
• Troubleshoot electrical and system issues on utility-scale PV systems and implement corrective maintenance solutions.
• Apply electrical safety and grounding practices during all maintenance and inspection activities.
• Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of all inspections, test results, maintenance actions, and site conditions.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding system status, issues found, and work completed.
• Follow established procedures and safety protocols while working in outdoor and physically demanding environments.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in solar operations and maintenance (O&M), electrical maintenance, or utility-scale PV systems.
• Proficiency with IV curve tracing for evaluating PV string and system performance.
• Experience performing infrared (IR) scans to identify electrical and thermal anomalies.
• Ability to perform inverter preventive maintenance (PMs), including inspection, testing, and basic repairs.
• Knowledge of PV systems, inverters, and balance-of-system equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety and grounding practices.
• Ability to perform field inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on solar PV and BESS assets.
• Current calibration certification valid through 2026.
• Strong documentation skills, including accurate recording of maintenance activities and inspection results.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with field teams and reporting findings.
• Comfort working in outdoor environments and physically demanding conditions, including roofs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in utility-scale solar PV or BESS projects is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with annual site visit procedures and reporting.
• Clean driving record to support potential conversion to full-time employment.
• Comfort using test instruments and diagnostic tools for electrical measurements such as VOC and current.
• Ability to adapt to varying start times based on site access requirements.

Work Environment

You work primarily outdoors, often on roofs and in open-field solar sites, in a physically demanding setting that requires comfort with heights, weather exposure, and active fieldwork. The position follows a first-shift schedule with a 40-hour workweek, and start times may vary depending on site access requirements. Drive time is paid, and you may use company or approved vehicles, making a clean driving record important for potential conversion to full-time employment. You regularly use electrical test equipment, IR cameras, and diagnostic tools while adhering to established safety procedures and appropriate field attire suitable for outdoor and rooftop work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yucca Valley, CA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Yucca Valley,CA.
