Respiratory Therapist II, PT Wknd Nights (NICU)

Overview The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi‑problem patient situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II provides education to patients, families and support systems, coordinates activities, supports staff development, and engages in professional growth. Hours Part‑time Nights, Weekend (24 hrs per week) Responsibilities Deliver customer service, complete patient care, documentation and education. Work with a team approach to service and promote a positive work environment. Provide supportive environment for students and staff. Perform patient assessment and evaluation for therapy. Collate with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen and medical gas therapy. Perform ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management including intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care. Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educate patients and mentor/precept new employees, students and peers. Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing (location specific). Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting and charging. Maintain high level of patient safety (medication safety, NPSG, etc.). Support performance improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice. Review revised and new DPPs. Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with at least 20 quarter hours of science. Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. 0–2 years of clinical experience with at least 6 months in critical care. Ability to communicate well, employ critical thinking skills, establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals, and possess computer skills including familiarity with databases.
