Non Profit Finance Manager

A respected nonprofit organization in the Walnut Creek area is seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead financial operations, strengthen internal systems, and support long‑range planning. This role requires someone who understands the complexity of government‑funded programs, enjoys improving processes, and thrives in a collaborative, mission‑driven environment. Location: Walnut Creek Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week Type: Temp‑to‑Hire Pay: $46–$57/hour ($96,820–$121,025 annualized) What You'll Do Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR, payroll, billing, and general ledger activities. Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and board committees. Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads and senior leadership. Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external financial reviews. Strengthen and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial policies. Oversee cash flow management, forecasting, and financial risk assessment. Review government contracts and ensure compliance with reimbursement and reporting requirements. Manage banking relationships and monitor investment activity in alignment with organizational policies. Prepare grant budgets, funder reports, and financial updates for foundations and other partners. Stay current on nonprofit finance standards, compliance regulations, and best practices. Build strong relationships with board finance committees and serve as a resource for financial insights. Collaborate with program teams to ensure financial understanding and operational alignment. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to finance team members. What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. 4–5+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Prior supervisory experience and a proven ability to lead and develop staff. Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make sound recommendations. Knowledge of GAAP, audits, and financial regulations relevant to nonprofit organizations. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Excellent communication skills, especially when partnering with non‑financial staff. Strong organizational skills, integrity, and a proactive, solutions‑driven mindset.
