Job Overview Library Information Specialist – 37.5 hours per week, Full Time, County: Richland, Campus: Columbia. Hours: Sunday, Wednesday – Saturday 1pm – 9pm. Basis: 12 months. Position Summary Provide general desk information services: answer phone, chat or face‑to‑face questions, print assistance, and circulation assistance. Log requests in databases and refer to other departments as needed. Act as supervisor on duty for mid shift until the arrival of the night manager, and serve as evening manager on weekends. Ensure desk coverage for OAIS operations and handle complex customer service issues. Monitor building entrance and exit points, enforce ID checks, and maintain safety guidelines during hazardous weather or security events. Create tickets for repairs or hazard removal and coordinate with emergency services when required. Coordinate with shift leaders and department heads to facilitate departmental needs; conduct weekly meetings. Provide training, oversight, and hiring support for student employees and report timekeeping to the student coordinator. Participate in outreach events and assist with set‑up and breakdown of events. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2+ years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience). Experience working in a library setting. Prior customer service experience. Supervisory experience of staff or processes. Knowledge of outreach methods. Experience implementing and enforcing library policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of library circulation and access services. Knowledge of modern academic library technology and equipment, including usage, accessibility, and instruction.
