Physician (Primary Care) Somersworth, NH - Full-time - Recruitment Incentive/ EDRP Authorized

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when recruiting qualified citizens is not possible (as per VA policy). Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Residency programs approved by ACGME, AOA, or other programs followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice may qualify. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a fully licensed physician status and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not have privileges; instead, they operate under a scope of practice allowing certain restricted duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: Board certification in ABIM (Internal Medicine) or ABFP (Family Medicine/Practice). BLS/ACLS certification. Physical requirements: meet physical standards for the position, including a medical examination prior to placement; the position requires lifting 15‑44 pounds, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, using fingers and both hands, walking and standing for 3–5 hours, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, depth perception, and color discrimination; a hearing aid is permitted. Duties Provide direct care to patients in the Primary Care department. Provide clinical guidance to physicians assistants and other staff as requested. Participate in interdisciplinary team activities to achieve optimum quality of patient care. Participate in progressive improvement of service delivery, including programmatic participation in facility initiatives. Evaluate patients to assess changes in physical and mental status. Document progress notes in the patient chart. Coordinate with providers within own and other service lines, other divisions of the Manchester VA structure, and CBOC clinics as determined by the plan of care. Maintain open, clear, and collaborative engagement to minimize barriers for Veterans and staff. Foster positive working relationships with staff, peers, and Veterans. Perform patient evaluations, diagnostic ordering, and interpretation of blood, fluid, and imaging studies. Provide appropriate medical care, ensuring staff within Primary Care are credentialed and privileged. Participate in hospital committees, departmental programs, and educational programs. Engage in continuous quality improvement through peer review and FPPE/OPPE processes. Participate in compliance readiness activities as requested by leadership. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in quality assurance programs, chart reviews, and complete medical records per Medical Staff Bylaws and regulations. Serve as a leader or active member on Medical Center committees and attend Medical Service Staff meetings. Teach effectively and provide guidance to others involved in Primary Care education. Maintain Basic Life Support status and complete mandatory training by due dates. Work schedule: Monday through Friday with variable hours; details discussed during interview.
