MRI Technologist

As an MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic MRI exams on patients using specialized equipment. You will work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and high‑quality imaging results. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of imaging techniques, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Shift Details Full‑time, 40 hours per week, variable shifts with rotating weekend coverage and on‑call responsibilities. Unit / Location St. Mary’s Medical Center (St. Marys Regional Hospital), Grand Junction, Colorado. Essential Functions Maintains ARRT or modality‑specific competency in all clinical and technical functions. Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam. Performs exams per department protocol and reviews images for quality, clarity, and accuracy. Adheres to MRI safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment. Completes studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality. Assists and instructs students and other MRI technologists in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment. Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns. Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques. Understands and operates equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images. Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions. Follows protocols for medical necessity, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures. Skills Anatomy knowledge Image evaluation Equipment operation Contrast protocols Emergency response Independent work Teamwork Effective communication Electronic imaging Task prioritization Clean environment MRI safety Minimum Qualifications – MRI Technologist I American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(R) cross‑trained in MRI Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers IV Competency within 30 days of hire Preferred Qualifications – MRI Technologist I 1–2 years of MRI technologist experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution Minimum Qualifications – MRI Technologist II American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers IV Competency within 30 days of hire Proficiency in 3 of the following areas: intra‑operative, cardiac, functional, breast, prostate, rectal cancer staging, advanced 3D spectroscopy, MR lymphangiography, or pediatric MRI (less than 15 years of age) representing 80% of patient workload Must complete at least five cases per specialty procedure with documented skills pass off by a lead MRI technologist or coordinator Preferred Qualifications – MRI Technologist II Three years of experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution Minimum Qualifications – Specialty Technologist in Training Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers Applicable State License Currently attending and receiving formal training from an accredited training program or successful completion of formal training from an approved/accredited school or a licensed ARRT technologist who has been selected to cross‑train in another modality Preferred Qualifications – Specialty Technologist in Training 1–2 years customer service or patient care experience IV certification Physical Requirements Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication and listening quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients; bending, lifting, and carrying supplies up to heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment in crowded rooms. May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period.
