About KIPP NorCal

We are a thriving nonprofit network of 23 free, public charter schools open to all students. At KIPP, we believe all children should grow up free to create the future they want for themselves and that schools can and should be a critical factor in making that vision a reality. Together with families and communities, we create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career, and beyond—so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

Our student community consists of nearly 7,000 elementary, middle, and high school students in East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco, San Lorenzo, San José, Redwood City, and Stockton. 81% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 34% are multilingual learners, and 12% have special needs. We strive to cultivate a representative team of teachers and leaders that reflect our students’ diversity.

Role Overview

The Speech-Language Pathologist – Clinical Fellow (CF-SLP) provides assessment, intervention, and case management services that support students' communication development and access to instruction. Working under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist during the Clinical Fellowship year, this role partners with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver legally compliant, high-quality speech-language services that improve student outcomes.

In this role, you execute assigned work with quality and independence while practicing within the scope of your Clinical Fellowship and the supervision requirements established by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board and ASHA. You determine how to complete assigned clinical work and elevate situations requiring supervisory review or clinical consultation.

In this role, you execute assigned tasks with quality and on time, working within a scope set by others. You decide how to approach your work; you elevate anything outside it.

Core Responsibilities
Assessment and Intervention
  • Conducts speech-language evaluations and analyzes assessment results to identify students' communication needs and inform educational planning under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.

  • Develops individualized therapy plans and implements evidence-based speech-language interventions that support measurable progress toward IEP goals.

  • Monitors student progress and adjusts intervention strategies based on student performance and ongoing assessment data.

IEP Development and Case Management
  • Prepares timely, accurate, and legally compliant evaluation reports and documentation that support eligibility determinations and educational decision‑making.

  • Participates as a member of multidisciplinary IEP teams by presenting assessment findings, explaining recommendations, and contributing to the development of communication goals and services.

  • Maintains case‑management responsibilities for speech‑only students, ensuring documentation, timelines, and service delivery remain compliant with federal, state, SELPA, and KIPP NorCal requirements.

Collaboration and Student Support
  • Partners with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to integrate communication strategies into classroom instruction and daily learning experiences.

  • Consults with educators and caregivers to recommend instructional supports and communication strategies that increase student access and participation.

  • Supports professional learning and models communication strategies for school staff under the guidance of the supervising Speech‑Language Pathologist.

Professional Practice
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation, attendance records, Medicaid or state reporting documentation (where applicable), and student records.

  • Participates in supervision, coaching, and professional learning activities that support successful completion of the Clinical Fellowship year.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

KIPP Leadership Competencies

These competencies describe the core leadership behaviors expected at this level – they guide how we hire, develop, and grow our people at KIPP NorCal.
