Phlebotomist Representative I – Hospital – Ellsworth, ME Monday to Friday, hours vary between 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM with rotational weekends. Job Overview Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Phlebotomist Representative I at Northern Lights Hospital. This hospital‑based role involves drawing quality blood samples from patients while following established practices and procedures. The position requires direct patient contact, creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence, and explaining procedures skillfully, safely, and accurately. Pay Range Minimum of $20.00+ per hour. Salary offers are based on skills, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups. Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol. Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas. Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola. Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order. Perform departmental‑related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed. Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures (e.g., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual); ensure that all staff members follow instructions. Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times. Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner. Complete all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and managing standing orders. Ensure facilities are neat, clean and in good repair; advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance. Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques. Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel. Participate in special projects and teams. Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled. Assist with training new staff or students as needed. Stay up to date on company communications. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed. Qualifications Required Work Experience Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on‑call and overtime. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable. Preferred Work Experience One year of phlebotomy experience. Customer service and healthcare experience. Keyboard/data entry experience. Depending on site operations and model, Hospital Phlebotomists may also support pre‑analytical laboratory functions. Physical and Mental Requirements Lift light to moderately heavy objects; typical weights range from 1 – 41 pounds with assistance for >41 pounds. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; requires long hours of eye‑hand coordination. Must be able to use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently. Position may require travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness. Positional coordination (balancing, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting). Work Environment Hospital environment. Exposure to patient temperaments and graphic traumas. English required. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Preferred Technical Training or Professional Licensing Phlebotomy certification (required in certain states such as California, Nevada, Washington and Louisiana); preferred.
