Job Description Gibbons Middle School, Westborough, MA, seeks a talented Computer Science Teacher to join our Engineering & Computer Science Department beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Job Title Computer Science Teacher Reports To Middle School Principal Department Science Department, grades 7-12 Work Year 184 days, Unit A contracted days FLSA Status Exempt Salary Range Unit A Salary Scale Job Goal: The Computer Science Teacher fosters a love of learning that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. The Middle School curriculum will focus on standards‑based, hands‑on units that will give students a solid grounding in coding and computer science concepts that will prepare them for continued work in the High School Computer Science department. The Computer Science department is committed to providing comprehensive offerings that establish foundations for lifelong learning and empower students to be effective participants in a computerized, information‑rich society. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field Professional Certification Required: MA DESE license in 7-12 Digital Literacy and Computer Science (or in process) SEI Endorsement preferred Specialized Knowledge: adolescent development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti‑bias instruction, co‑teaching, social‑emotional learning, technology integration CORI, SORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI, SORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Experience teaching English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design Highly desirable to have experience with: Co‑Teaching Technology Integration Previous training, experience and subject matter competence in a middle school digital literacy and computer science program, preferred. REQUIRED PROFICIENCIES Create a welcoming, supportive, and equitable learning environment Plan and implement differentiated lessons and ongoing formative assessments based on district objectives and the abilities Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design with a demonstrated commitment to remain current in content knowledge Partner and collaborate with team teachers, department colleagues, and specialists Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents Integrate technology in order to enhance and extend student learning experiences Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate Have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues Be flexible, collaborative, and have a growth mindset for self and students CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO) Apply basic principles and concepts for digital literacy and computer science in Computing and Society, Digital Tools and Collaboration, Computing Systems, and Computational Thinking as outlined in the Digital Literacy Computer Science Framework. Assist with the development of the Grade 8 Digital Literacy / Computer Science curriculum to meet the district's vertical progression of MA Digital Literacy and Computer Science frameworks. Make effective use of technology tools and resources to continuously assess student learning and technology literacy by applying a rich variety of formative and summative assessments aligned with content and student technology standards systematically collect and analyze student achievement data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning Employ effective classroom management to maximize student use of digital tools and resources Explore and integrate technology to promote curiosity, deepened learning, creativity, and collaboration. Teach students to work collaboratively to solve problems and think logically and creatively. Support students in creating culminating projects that enable them to apply their DLCS skills by engaging them in a variety of authentic learning (real world) opportunities. Collaborate with colleagues to infuse current and relevant technology into daily, school‑wide instruction. Maintain digital literacy and computer science knowledge and best practice through professional development, seeking opportunities to grow professionally recognizing that the field is dynamic. Evaluate and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence. Participate in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed. Any other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Computer Science Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any ESPs who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom.
