Consultant, Risk Management - P&C (Agribusiness)

Job Summary Consultant, Risk Management – Agribusiness (Property & Casualty) Nationwide’s Property & Casualty team seeks a consultant to support agribusiness clients on the eastern seaboard (PA, NC, SC, VA, WV). The role manages the entire risk assessment process for large accounts, conducting on‑site surveys, evaluating exposure, recommending controls, and producing comprehensive reports for underwriting and clients. Key Responsibilities Research client information using internal and external resources, including business history, industry and technical data during survey preparation. Conduct onsite surveys of clients’ operations to identify and evaluate risk exposures across all Property & Casualty lines. Visually inspect operations and interview client representatives to determine underlying risk exposures and potential causes of loss. Analyze loss exposures and effectiveness of existing controls; identify frequency and severity trends to prioritize survey activity. Develop recommendations to assist clients in managing risk and improve their Property & Casualty risk management programs. Consult with Underwriting regarding risk insurability, coverage, account rehabilitation, and improvement opportunities. Write comprehensive reports documenting hazards, controls, effectiveness, and recommendations for all lines of coverage. Communicate recommendations verbally and in writing to underwriting, clients, and agent partners. Coordinate services internally, request assistance from specialists and engineers as needed, and manage travel and workload to meet timelines. Represent the Risk Management Consultant role in meetings and consult with external associations on risk management issues. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in insurance, risk management, agriculture, food, engineering, business administration, or a related safety field. Five‑plus years of experience in commercial underwriting, claims adjusting, loss control, or related commercial insurance fields. Ten years preferred. Federal and/or state insurance licenses or registrations required; must maintain within designated time period. Experience with worker’s compensation, fleet, general liability, and property insurance coverage. Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with all levels of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to prioritize work, operate personal computer, and learn applicable systems. Preferred Skills & Experience In‑depth knowledge of risk management issues, loss drivers, and controls in commercial industries. Experience analyzing loss patterns and providing improvement recommendations to underwriting. Knowledge of limited code enforcement and regulation environments. Leadership, interpersonal and training skills. Job Conditions Frequent and overnight travel within the United States. Physical ability to conduct on‑site inspections, climb, stoop, bend, balance, crawl, and lift up to 50 lbs. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
