Construction Estimator Restaurant & Retail

Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator specializing in restaurant and retail projects. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates and bids, analyze drawings and specifications, manage subcontractor quotes, and support preconstruction activities to help secure profitable work. This role requires strong estimating and bidding experience within construction, a commercial mindset for restaurant and retail builds or remodels, and excellent communication with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for restaurant and retail construction and renovation projects.
• Develop competitive bid proposals, pricing strategies, and scope clarifications to submit timely bids.
• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes; maintain a reliable vendor and subcontractor database.
• Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil drawings to identify scope, risks, and potential value engineering opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and owners during preconstruction to refine budgets, schedules, and constructability.
• Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing, and estimating templates to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and walkthroughs to gather information and validate assumptions.
• Prepare bid summaries, margin analysis, and recommendation reports for senior management.
• Support post-bid activities including contract award transitions, clarifications, and change order pricing when required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of estimating experience in construction with demonstrated work on restaurant and retail projects (required).
• Proven experience preparing bids and proposals, performing quantity takeoffs, and using estimating best practices (required).
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and trades for commercial interior and small-to-medium retail builds (required).
• Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or similar) and MS Office (required).
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and attention-to-detail skills; ability to identify risks and cost-saving opportunities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with clients, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight bid deadlines, and work independently.
• Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience preferred; estimating certification a plus.
• Valid drivers license and ability to attend site visits as required.
• Nice to have: experience with larger commercial construction projects and familiarity with local building codes and permitting processes.
