Senior DevOps Engineer with Programming (Java or Python)

Location: Vancouver, BC/Remote

Duration: 12+ Months

The Senior Software Engineer role will assist in developing high-performing, well-tested and thoughtfully architected software applications that satisfy our internal business needs and power guest experiences.

A Day In The Life

• Leads end-to-end engineering for projects and problems of complex scope and impact within practice.
• Manages cross team software dependencies within discipline as it pertains to deliverable.
• Collaborates with all disciplines to ensure problem and recommend solution is understood.
• Delivers software that meet architectural and operational requirements and perform to expectations.
• Uses algorithms, data structures, programming languages, programming paradigms to create, test and operate sustainable client-side or server-side software applications and services.
• Builds and extends software applications in varying (cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premise) environments.
• Draw on your extensive skills and experience to support and build API’s and Web services
• Proficient in producing robust application design and producing patterns to ensure applications are resilient and scalable
• Engages in ongoing quality and performance improvement to ensure reliability and security.
• Accountable to ensure engineering teams meet production SLA’s of applications/systems
• Provide code peer review
• Pull request review

Technical Skill Tool Kit:

• Fluent with functional, imperative and object-­oriented languages; Strong knowledge of Java, Python, Scala, would be desired
• Solid Experience with DevOps practices (i.e. CI/CD, Automated Testing using APIs, TDD ).
• Able to write SQL scripts for data analysis and reporting
• Experience with AWS services EC2, ECS, serverless computing, EBS, RDS, S3, IAM, etc.
• In-depth understanding of API gateway products, API security policies & API traffic management policies
• GitLab experience
• Airflow experience is a good-to-have. If not Airflow, a similar scheduling/orchestrating tool.
• Solid experience working with large scale enterprise integration systems.
• Strong software delivery fundamentals including automated testing, source control, continuous integration, and continuous deployment
• Must Have: In-depth working experience with Spring Boot, Gitlab Jenkins, Maven, JFrog, Docker, AWS EKS or Kubernetes, Terraform, Apache Kafka
• Familiar with the Ops tools: Splunk, Grafana, PagerDuty, Prometheus
• Familiar with the project tools: Jira, Confluence, Teams, MS Office, SharePoint.

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience; 10+ years in IT.
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent.
• Passion for solving problems and strong curiosity to understand how things work.
• Experience designing and developing software solutions.
• Strong software development fundamentals including automated testing, source control, continuous integration in addition to continuous delivery and/or deployment.
