Child Nutrition Assistant

A Child Nutrition Assistant is responsible for performing all tasks in the cafeteria pertaining to food preparation, serving, and clean-up, as designated by the cafeteria manager or the manager's designee. Assigned tasks which occur repeatedly are expected to be completed independently after having been performed under close supervision a few times. Employees are expected to follow work schedules and multi-stepped instructions without frequent assistance. Work is evaluated upon completion for quality of assigned tasks and is under the direct supervision of the manager or manager's designee.

Learn and apply quantity food preparation methods and procedures. Possess an ability to stand for an extended period of time. Be able to lift up to 30 to 50 pounds independently. Read, interpret and follow standardized recipes. Properly use and care for all equipment in the Child Nutrition Program. Work efficiently, keeping work surfaces clean and neat. Ensure that spills are thoroughly cleaned as they occur. Return clean equipment to its proper place. Practice safety precautions at all times. Take food temperatures regularly throughout the food preparation process. Exhibit efficiency in operating computer and computer programs. Follow work schedules and cleaning schedules as assigned by the Child Nutrition manager and/or manager's designee. Assist in any area in the Child Nutrition Program as requested by the Child Nutrition manager or manager's designee. Obtain a school bus license, and operate a school bus when requested by the principal or designee. Follow items outlined in the "Child Nutrition Employees Duties, Responsibilities and Dress Code."

Exhibits knowledge, skill and ability to prepare foods that meet standards of National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Exhibits safe kitchen practices. Exhibits mathematic knowledge, skill and ability to count money, make change, convert recipes, and determine the number of servings needed. Competent in operating point of sale computer. Ability to perceive and serve appropriate standard size portions. Ability to use food preparation and cleaning equipment. Ability to work quickly with hands.

Prefer one year of experience in food service or demonstrate an ability to perform required tasks.
