About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Yes Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: MS/PCU/Tele or CCU experience Description: The unit has 34 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio during the day is 1:5 and at night is 1:6. Required certifications include BLS and NIHSS. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, CHF, orthopedic cases, appendicitis, cholecystectomy, diverticulitis, bowel resection, and pancreatitis. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Charge nurses are available on both shifts, and a supervisor is available at night. Patient Care Technicians are present on both shifts with a maximum ratio of 1:12. There is remote monitoring for telemetry, and monitor technicians provide analysis. RNs are not responsible for interpreting telemetry strips. Self-scheduling is available based on census and staffing. There is a weekend rotation requirement, currently requiring four weekend shifts per six-week schedule. Holiday rotation will be based on the calendar. If cancelled, nurses may be placed on call, with a required 45-minute return after notification. Floating requirements are within the medical-surgical scope of practice. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit will provide two shifts on the unit with a preceptor for clinical education. Charting is done through Cerner. The position does not require a BSN. The trauma level is specified for the care setting in an acute environment. Shift schedule is 6P-6:30A.
