Registered Nurse Medical Surgical Neurology

The Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical Neurology is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological and medical-surgical conditions in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, IV therapy, respiratory management, wound care, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse will manage complex cases including CVA, neuro surgery recovery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury, while utilizing telemetry and emergency response protocols. A minimum of two years of relevant experience and active Illinois RN licensure are required. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Administer medications including Heparin, Insulin, and PCA pumps.
• Manage IV therapy including accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line care, and starting IVs.
• Provide respiratory care including management of chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy care, oral suctioning, and oxygen therapy.
• Manage neurological and psychiatric cases such as CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury.
• Provide wound care including Wound Vac management and continuous bladder irrigation.
• Utilize telemetry for cardiac monitoring and participate in rapid response teams.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner electronic medical records system.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and hospital protocols.
• Float within nursing scope as needed to meet facility requirements.

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in Medical/Surgical nursing.
• BLS and NIHSS certifications.
• Proficiency in telemetry and emergency response procedures.
• Experience with IV therapy, medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA), and respiratory care.
• Knowledge of neurological patient care including CVA, neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and TBI.
• Experience with wound care, continuous bladder irrigation, and use of surgical drains.
• Competency in Cerner electronic health record system.

• Experience in a teaching hospital environment.
• Experience working in a Level II trauma center.

• Will float within scope to meet facility needs.
• No on-call requirement.
• Must be able to work every other weekend.
• RTO restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
• Client may cancel up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay; cancellations beyond this will be billed.
• Parking permit required but no cost for parking.

• 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, day shift.
• Block schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
• Guaranteed hours subject to client cancellation policies.
