Director, Immunology Scientific Innovation

AstraZeneca seeks a Director of Immunology Scientific Innovation to lead laboratory-based scientists in Cambridge, Massachusetts, developing cell therapy strategies for immune-mediated diseases. The role combines scientific leadership in immunological disease biology with drug discovery oversight and team management across a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Define and advance scientific strategies in immunological disease biology and immune-cell mechanisms
• Develop discovery strategies for immune-mediated diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease
• Lead laboratory-based scientific team in Cambridge with recruitment, mentoring and development
• Contribute to and lead programs from early discovery toward clinical development decisions
• Build and maintain productive relationships with internal colleagues, academic institutions and external collaborators

Requirements

• PhD or advanced degree in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or related discipline
• At least 5 years R&D experience studying mechanisms of immune-mediated diseases
• At least 3 years experience in B-cell and/or T-cell biology in disease contexts
• At least 5 years pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience
• Demonstrated ability to translate biological insights into drug discovery programs
• Experience managing and developing scientific teams in matrix environments
• Track record contributing to or leading programs from discovery toward early clinical development
