Control Panel Fabricator / Panel Builder

The Control Panel Fabricator (Panel Builder) assembles, wires, tests, and inspects industrial control panels that operate machinery and electrical systems. You work directly from engineering drawings, schematics, and panel layouts to install components such as PLCs, VFDs, relays, and terminal blocks, ensuring all work complies with applicable electrical and safety standards. This role combines hands-on electrical assembly with careful documentation, quality control, and troubleshooting to deliver reliable, serviceable control panels.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings to understand panel design and build requirements.
  • Lay out components within control panel enclosures and on back panels, ensuring proper spacing, accessibility, and adherence to design specifications.
  • Drill, tap, and prepare mounting locations for electrical components and hardware inside enclosures.
  • Install DIN rail, wire duct, relays, terminal blocks, VFDs, PLCs, power supplies, motor starters, and related control components.
  • Route, label, bundle, and terminate wires and cables according to wiring diagrams, company standards, and best practices.
  • Perform point-to-point wiring for control and power circuits, ensuring correct connections and proper segregation of circuits.
  • Maintain neat, organized, and serviceable panel wiring to support ease of maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Use hand and power tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, drills, knockout punches, and saws safely and effectively during panel construction.
  • Perform continuity and functional testing of panels using digital multimeters and other test equipment to verify correct operation.
  • Troubleshoot wiring issues, miswiring, and component failures, and implement corrective actions before shipment or installation.
  • Verify overall panel operation and functionality against project specifications prior to shipment or deployment.
  • Maintain accurate red-line markups on drawings and communicate any discrepancies or required field changes to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet project specifications, internal quality standards, and applicable electrical and safety requirements.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, bill of materials (BOM) verification, and confirmation that all required components are installed.
  • Support a clean, organized work area and contribute to continuous improvement of panel building processes and standards.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial panel building, electrical assembly, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial control components including PLCs, VFDs, relays, power supplies, and motor starters.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, drills, knockout punches, and saws.
  • Strong understanding of electrical wiring methods, control systems, and panel wiring practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform point-to-point wiring and terminations for control and power circuits.
  • Experience performing continuity and functional testing using digital multimeters and related test equipment.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to maintain neat, organized, and serviceable panel wiring to professional standards.
  • Comfort working from blueprints and technical documentation in a job shop environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with panel layout, including drilling, tapping, and mounting components inside enclosures and on back panels.
  • Familiarity with installing DIN rail, wire duct, terminal blocks, PLCs, VFDs, and related hardware.
  • Experience in electrical assembly or control panel fabrication in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to maintain and update red-line markups and communicate drawing discrepancies or field changes.
  • Experience assisting with inventory tracking and bill of materials (BOM) verification.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills and comfort working with detailed engineering documentation.
  • Solid understanding of quality control practices for electrical assemblies.
  • Interest in continuous learning and expanding knowledge of industrial control systems and components.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hendersonville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
