Senior Actuary, Outcomes
We're looking for a technically rigorous and commercially savvy Senior Actuary, Outcomes to bring actuarial depth to Maven's Clinical Outcomes team. This role spans actuarial modeling, healthcare claims analytics, and client‑facing strategy—supporting our Growth and Product functions with projections, retrospective analyses, and value‑based care modeling.
Responsibilities
- Own claims and savings projections and retrospective analyses across Maven's employer benefit programs—including performance guarantee assessments, value‑based care arrangement modeling, and spend and enrollment projections across Maven's full program portfolio.
- Build, maintain, and scale Maven's actuarial and ROI models in Excel, ensuring methodological rigor and integrating models into team workflows for self‑service use.
- Conduct actuarial confidence evaluations to inform revenue recognition decisions and assess financial risk in value‑based arrangements.
- Support RFP responses with actuarial projections, benchmarking, and methodology documentation.
- Perform detailed claims analytics for individual and pooled client populations, including evaluation of performance guarantees based on claims data evaluations.
- Join sales and client success calls—including with brokers and benefits consultants—to speak with authority on outcomes methodology, ROI, and actuarial assumptions.
- Contribute to thought leadership through white papers, research publications, industry conferences, and partner with Marketing to reach actuarial and benefits audiences.
- Manage external actuarial vendor relationships, serving as owner and subject‑matter expert on scoping and quality of deliverables.
Qualifications
- An FSA, ASA, or equivalent actuarial credential (or meaningful progress toward credentialing), or a graduate degree with 6+ years of directly relevant actuarial or healthcare analytics experience.
- Strong analysis design, modeling, and data manipulation skills, with the ability to synthesize findings into clear, client‑ready outputs.
- Comfort working in both a coding language (SQL preferred) as well as in Excel, and strong ability to use AI to produce and QA code for data exploration and analysis.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort presenting to external audiences (e.g., clients), including experience presenting technical material to non‑technical audiences.
- Strong project management instincts with the ability to juggle competing priorities and self‑direct in an unstructured environment.
- Deep familiarity with healthcare claims data, including medical and pharmacy claims structures, PMPM/PBPM cost modeling, and trend analysis.
- Passion for improving maternal and family health outcomes through data‑driven innovation.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in employer‑sponsored benefits, stop‑loss, or managed care actuarial roles.
- Familiarity with performance guarantee structures and risk‑based contracting.
- Experience supporting sales or growth functions in a healthcare technology or benefits company.
- Background in women's health, maternity, or family benefits.
- Experience with data visualization tools (Looker a plus).
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $149,000‑$170,000 per year. You will also be entitled to receive equity and benefits. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset.
