Part Time Speech and Language Pathologist

Basic Function:

Evaluate and treat students with speech, language, and communication disorders resulting in Speech Language Impairment. Implement individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborate with school staff and families, provide direct therapy services and complete required assessments, goal setting and tracking and service provider logs.


Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administer standardized and informal speech/language evaluations to determine eligibility and identify specific functional communication needs
2. Develop and implement measurable, curriculum-aligned goals for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) regulations.
3. Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings, representing clinical findings and collaborating on student placement and educational planning.
4. Provide direct treatment to students including developing and implementing instructional/therapeutic lessons that are aligned with the student's IEP objectives
5. Work directly with education staff to integrate communication strategies into students' daily routines.
6. Provide consultative services and training to classroom staff, paraprofessionals, and families to support skill generalization and carryover beyond therapy sessions.
7. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with school policies, including progress monitoring, session notes, and annual review reports.
8. Contribute to monitoring and adapting student programs.
9. Organize and maintain space, materials and equipment.
10. Engage in continuous professional learning to enhance service delivery and improve student learning.
11. Work with colleagues, students and families to develop and sustain a positive school climate that supports student learning.
12. Use the CARE model to influence and guide all interactions and philosophy of support for students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
13. Use the TCI model to influence and guide all interactions and philosophy of support for students.
14. Demonstrate competence of the TCI model by passing a written test annually and physical skills assessment every 6 months.
15. Uphold and model for our students the Health and Wellness model.
16. Participate in developing, with the principal, an annual supervision plan through mutual goal setting.
17. Maintain knowledge of and follow Agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and departmental manuals.
18. Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School.
19. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
20. Maintain access to and compliance with ethical professional standards of the discipline in which credentialed.
21. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

No ability to Telework except in cases where school-based learning must be performed virtually due to extenuating circumstances for the student or in the environment that necessitates online instruction.
