Medical Science Liaison, Oncology - Illinois and Wisconsin

Overview

Jazz Pharmaceuticals is a global biopharma company focused on developing life-changing medicines for serious diseases. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is field-based and supports the Medical Affairs organization by developing relationships with medical thought leaders and providing scientific information and support.

The position covers Illinois and Wisconsin and requires professionals with established personal and scientific credibility to interact with thought leaders and academic centers of excellence. While advertised as an MSL, candidates with senior-level experience may be considered for a requisition for additional expertise if business needs justify it.

Essential Functions

KOL Development and Field Engagement

• Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the Oncology therapeutic area
• Develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans
• Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments
• Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings
• Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives

Positions self as Scientific Expert

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, emerging research, therapeutic issues and trends, and the competitive landscape
• Establish reputation as a trustworthy and knowledgeable source of scientific and medical information for the healthcare community
• Support development of Jazz Pharmaceuticals positioning as the scientific authority in Oncology
• Attend appropriate scientific congresses to stay abreast of developments and support regional, national and local KOL activities
• Acquire a broad understanding of local and national protocols and standards of clinical practice and disease management trends in the US
• Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings
• Communicate emerging data and clinical experience with Jazz products through scientific exchange and peer-to-peer interactions, discussing benefits and risks objectively
• Provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives

Medical Affairs Planning and Plan Execution

• Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and provide input into local strategies and tactics
• Where needed, manage relevant budget to enable execution of Medical Plan tactics as part of the wider Medical Affairs team
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues to ensure a Key Account Management approach
• Interacts with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan including advisory boards, speaker development and clinical trials

Responsible for maintaining Company standards and Jazz Values

• Act to enhance Jazz Pharmaceuticals' image as an advocate of medical advancement by engaging healthcare providers in meaningful scientific exchange
• Document and forward reports of adverse events and product complaints according to Jazz policy to ensure safe and effective use of Jazz products
• Adhere to relevant national and local Codes of Practice
• Behave ethically and with integrity at all times
• Act as an ambassador for Jazz Pharmaceuticals following company mission and values
• Maintain a written development plan and implement it
• Prepare timely reporting according to company needs

Preferred

• Knowledge of geography, healthcare environment and external experts in academia and medical community
• Demonstrated ability to develop trust and relationships with opinion leaders in disease states of interest
• Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses

• Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years experience in solid tumors oncology medicine
• License (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with a minimum of a Master\'s Degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years experience in solid tumors oncology medicine
• A minimum of 2 years experience as an MSL or comparable industry or clinical role is required
• Experience in solid tumors/targeted therapies and a strong track record of success is strongly preferred
• This is a field position, and applicants must be willing to travel ~60% of time
• Valid driver\'s license and live in proximity of a major airport

• Frequent interactions with external contacts in an office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes
• Frequent computer laptop or tablet use, not usually at a workstation
• Responsibilities may require a work schedule that may include hours outside of a typical workday to meet business demands
• Frequent public contact requiring appropriate business attire

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices with base pay range of $160,000.00 - $240,000.00. Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, experience, and other factors. This range is reviewed regularly and considered within Jazz\'s Total Compensation philosophy.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package including potential discretionary bonus or incentive compensation and discretionary equity grants according to Jazz policies.
