ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, BUSINESS OPERATIONSThe Sr. Environmental Engineer will support the Business Operations team in developing and managing organization-wide environmental programs. This role is critical in ensuring environmental compliance while enabling SpaceX operational targets to meet aggressive timelines. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert to mitigate environmental risks, optimize resource use and maintain full regulatory compliance in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop, implement, and continuously improve environmental programs at SpaceXServe as a subject matter expert for site specific environmental partnersMaintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations established by the EPA, and state programsTrack, review, and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to managementPerform environmental audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agenciesAudit and maintain the compliance calendar and other recordkeeping and environmental tracking softwareAudit site operational compliance plans including the storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasures plan (SPCC)Audit site hazardous materials business plan including updates and regulatory submittalsAudit site industrial wastewater discharge permit including updates and regulatory submittalsResponsible for hazardous waste compliance and regulatory reportingCoordinate and manage contractors for permitting and environmental testing. Review and maintain reports and other relevant records from assessments and permitting activitiesAssist the Environmental Health and Safety team with site operational compliance as neededDevelop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and county regulatorsDevelop and maintain positive and close working relationships with engineering teams across the organizationBASIC QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree5+ years of professional experience in the design, development, and execution of environmental and regulatory compliance programsPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineeringExperience working multi-site operationsExperience in environmental field with 6+ years of environmental and regulatory complianceStrong knowledge of EPA and statewide environmental regulations spanning the United StatesHands-on experience with SWPPPs, Best Management Practices (BMPs), industrial wastewater permitting, and SPCC plansStrong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretationTrack record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solutionAble to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agenciesAbility to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficientlyAbility to work independently and respond at short noticeHighly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of workADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSPosition requires up to 25% travel to other SpaceX sites as neededPosition occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when neededITAR REQUIREMENTS:To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
