Senior Project Accountant

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
• Process and review payroll for field and office employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Prepare and submit certified payroll reports, prevailing wage documentation, and other labor compliance reports as required for public works projects.
• Reconcile payroll, labor costs, and benefits to the general ledger while investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable records, including vendor payments, customer billing, collections, and cash application.
• Assist with financial statement preparation, job cost reporting, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, budgeting, audits, and year-end reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction, engineering, or contracting industry.
• Strong payroll experience, including multi-state payroll processing, certified payroll, prevailing wage, and union payroll administration.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures.
• Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage 300/Timberline, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, or similar ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain accurate financial records.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Knowledge of construction job costing, project accounting, subcontractor compliance, and labor reporting requirements is highly preferred.
