Certified Surg Tech

Unit consists of 4 beds in the main operating room and 8 beds in the pavilion. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1, with nurses circulating; scrubbing is a plus but not required. An EMR system, Cerner Surginet, is utilized for charting. There is a charge nurse present who does not take patients or cases. Scrub techs are utilized in the unit. No weekend requirement. Holidays are covered by call. Scrub colors are provided by the facility. On-call requirement is one shift per week and every fourth weekend. Shifts have variable start times between 6 am and 9 am; no evening or weekend shifts required. Floating is not required. There is a one-week paperwork orientation and one week partnered with a preceptor. Common diagnoses and types of patients include mostly orthopedic cases (total hips, knees, joints), neuro and orthopedic spine, cardiovascular cases, general, gynecology, urology, and ENT. An average of 15-25 cases are performed daily, totaling approximately 400 per month. Approximately 20-25% of cases are inpatient. Cardiovascular and robotic cases can only be performed if there is prior experience. It is important to follow specific processes within the operating room suites. Anesthesiology is performed solely by anesthesiologists; CRNAs are not utilized. Critical patients are transferred directly to ICU from the operating room. Preference is given to contracts of 26 weeks. The cancellation policy allows for the facility to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks.
