Schedule: 36 Hours per Week | Day Shift (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) | Every 3rd Weekend & Holiday Rotation

Position Overview


Heywood Hospital is seeking a dedicated and clinically skilled Registered Nurse for a contract opportunity in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ideal candidate will have strong telemetry experience, excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to provide high-quality care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced environment.


This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary healthcare team while delivering comprehensive patient care and supporting positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Deliver patient-centered care in accordance with established standards, protocols, and hospital policies
• Monitor and manage critically ill patients requiring intensive care services
• Administer medications and intravenous therapies safely and accurately
• Perform cardiac rhythm interpretation and identify arrhythmias promptly
• Interpret EKG changes and respond appropriately to patient conditions
• Monitor and manage anticoagulation and thrombolytic therapies
• Provide care for mechanically ventilated patients, including airway management, suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning support
• Interpret arterial blood gases and monitor respiratory status
• Assist with hemodynamic monitoring and invasive line management
• Administer and titrate vasoactive medications according to protocols
• Deliver post-operative recovery care and monitor for complications
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with the healthcare team
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge needs
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Support patient safety initiatives and quality improvement programs
• Participate in professional development, training, and mentoring opportunities

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Current BLS Certification
• Current ACLS Certification, or active BLS with the ability to obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire
• Previous telemetry experience required
• Strong critical care assessment and monitoring skills

Preferred Qualifications

• ICU experience preferred
• CCRN certification preferred
• Previous medical-surgical nursing experience preferred

Schedule & Assignment Details

• 13-week contract assignment
• Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• 36 scheduled hours per week
• Monday through Sunday scheduling rotation
• Every third weekend required
• Holiday coverage required
• On-call responsibilities may apply according to department needs

• Ability to lift, move, and assist patients and equipment as required
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, handling, and patient care activities
• Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced critical care environment
