Job Title: Machine Electrician / Electrical Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of CNC and automated industrial equipment in a modern manufacturing environment. You will perform electrical maintenance on CNC mills, CNC lathes, CNC machining centers, robotics, and associated plant equipment, ensuring machines run safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. The position requires independent electrical diagnosis, hands-on repair work, and regular use of computerized maintenance systems to document activities and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair CNC equipment independently, including CNC mills, CNC lathes, CNC machining centers, and robotics.
• Perform electrical maintenance on automation machine tools and industrial equipment such as P&H cranes and hoists, conveyors, furnaces, large part washers, ABB robots, and various CNC machine tools.
• Troubleshoot and repair CNC and PLC systems with controllers from brands such as Fanuc, Siemens, Modicon, Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, and similar control platforms.
• Identify and resolve issues with AC and DC analog and digital drives, sensors, cables, wiring, drive faults, encoders, and 480V electrical systems.
• Connect a laptop or computer to machines to go online with PLCs and control systems, diagnose faults, and edit ladder logic programs as needed.
• Use HMI interfaces to perform electrical troubleshooting, alter programs, and verify proper machine operation.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and control diagrams to support accurate diagnosis and repair.
• Maintain and repair electrical wiring, relay logic, control systems, and encoder-based feedback systems, including glass scale linear encoders.
• Troubleshoot PLC controls and robotics systems, including PLC control, PLC robotics, and Siemens PLC platforms.
• Utilize the computerized MMS maintenance system to receive and generate work orders, and accurately log all maintenance performed using a company-provided computer or tablet.
• Prioritize machinery repairs based on the value stream and criticality of the equipment to production.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team and production personnel to minimize downtime and ensure safe, reliable machine operation.
• Follow established safety procedures and best practices when working with high-voltage systems and industrial machinery.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to electrically diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair CNC equipment independently.
• Strong experience troubleshooting through various types of controls, including CNC and PLC control systems.
• Hands-on electrical machine repair experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
• Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, including going online with PLCs and editing ladder logic programs.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting through HMI interfaces, including altering programs and parameters.
• Controls experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell, Fanuc, and similar industrial control systems.
• Solid understanding of AC and DC power systems and their application in industrial machinery.
• Knowledge of glass scale linear encoders and other encoder-based feedback systems.
• Strong knowledge in electrical maintenance, electrical wiring, relay logic, control systems, and industrial automation.
• Ability to work safely and effectively with 480V electrical systems and complex industrial equipment.
• Comfort using laptops and computers to connect to machines, diagnose issues, and update control programs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Electrician credential is highly desirable.
• Associate Degree in Industrial Automation or a related technical field is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with industrial robotics, including ABB robots and PLC-based robotic control.
• Familiarity with Siemens PLCs, Rockwell control systems, and Fanuc CNC controls.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to prioritize tasks based on production needs and equipment value stream.
• Willingness to work off-shift schedules (2nd, 3rd, or AWS) after completion of initial training.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that is climate controlled, very clean, and operates as a machine shop production environment. Work is performed around CNC machines, robotics, cranes, conveyors, furnaces, and other industrial equipment using laptops, HMIs, PLC programming tools, and a computerized MMS maintenance system. Positions are off-shift, with 2nd shift running Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift running Monday through Friday from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. An AWS option is available, consisting of 12-hour shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the opportunity to pick up an additional day during the week to reach 40 hours. During the first 2–4 weeks, new hires can expect to work approximately 40 hours per week on 1st shift for training before moving to their assigned off-shift schedule. The environment supports professional attire suitable for a clean, industrial machine shop setting, with a strong emphasis on safety procedures and proper use of tools and equipment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lafayette, IN.

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
