Project Accountant

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 annually LHH is supporting a growing construction-focused organization in the Nashville area that is seeking a Project Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys project-based accounting, is highly organized in Excel, and can thrive in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. The Project Accountant will support billing, job costing, reporting, reconciliations, vendor coordination, and process improvement efforts across active projects. This is a strong opportunity for someone with construction accounting exposure or a solid accounting foundation who wants to continue growing in a project-driven environment. Responsibilities Prepare and process customer billings, including cost-plus and fixed fee billing structures Maintain schedules of values and related project billing documentation Support project closeout tasks, final billing, and related financial documentation Match invoices to purchase orders and receivers, including review of quantities, pricing, tax, and freight Assist with accurate cost coding and job costing review Research and help resolve billing questions, short payments, deductions, and vendor issues Use Excel to track, organize, and validate project accounting data Prepare and maintain spreadsheets to support reporting, reconciliations, and variance review Assist with basic reporting, dashboards, and visibility tools as needed Support vendor setup, W-9 collection, lien release documentation, and payment‑related follow‑up Help document workflows, identify process improvements, and elevate system‑related issues when appropriate Qualifications 2+ years of accounting or finance experience required Project accounting experience preferred Construction, electrical contractor, or project‑based industry experience strongly preferred Prior exposure to billing, subcontractors, schedules of values, job costing, or WIP schedules is a plus Strong Excel skills required, including experience with functions such as SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, SUMPRODUCT, INDIRECT, Power Query, or VBA High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with accounting, operations, vendors, and internal stakeholders Comfortable working within accounting systems or ERP platforms Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered Power BI or reporting/analytics experience is a plus Benefits Benefit offerings available for our associates include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, commuter benefits, and a 401k plan.
